Now ESIC dues shall pay before 15th day of month

Whereas the draft rule under ESIC published on 1st April-2017, in which ESIC proposed to change last payment due date of ESIC Contributions, required to replace with "before 15th of every month in wages dues falls" in place of "before 21st of the month in which wages dues falls" as well as sets 30 days for observation of Objection with valid reason form employers, if any. Now after the rule changed as per amendment ESIC contribution shall be payable before and on 15th instead of 21st. This rule should be implemented w.e.f. June-2017.  Hence ESIC Contributions for the month of June-2017 shall be paid before and on 15th July-2017. Get notification in PDF

ESI Scheme – Scheme For Promoting Registration Of Employers/Employees

ESI Corporation has been taking several steps for enhancing the coverage of employees under the ESI Scheme. Rule 51 of the ESI [Central] Rules, has been amended and new Rule 51-B is inserted to the Rules to provide for payment of contribution in the areas where ESI Act is implemented for the first time. The new rule provides that in the newly implemented areas the rate of contribution by the employers will be 3% instead of 4% and in the case of employees, it is 1% in place of 1.75% and amended rules was circulated under KEA Circular No. 100/2016 dated 12.10.2016. Employers urged to register workers under social security net

Union Labour Secretary asks employers to make use of the ongoing amnesty scheme for EPF, ESIC Employers should use the ongoing amnesty scheme for EPF and ESIC to ensure all their workers are registered under the social security net, urged M Sathiyavathy , Secretary, Union Labour Ministry. She said this is an opportunity for the employers to regularize their workforce without any concern about previous dues. The scheme is open till March 31. The registration will bring in benefits, such as assured minimum wages and coverage under social security net for healthcare and retirement benefits, she said at the Regional Conference of State Labour Ministers and Secretaries here on Wednesday. The benefits are beginning to show with over 1,400 establishments being registered afresh and over 1 lakh new employees registered under the social security net in the Southern region alone, following the amnesty scheme. Starting 1 January 2017, employers will need to make contributions under the ESI Act for a larger pool of employees since the wage ceiling for applicability of this statute has been increased from INR 15,000 to INR 21,000. Introduction Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948 ( ESI Act ) is a social security legislation aimed at providing benefits to employees in case of sickness, maternity, employment injury and certain other related matters. Under this self-financing health insurance scheme, funds are primarily built out of contribution from employers and employees. On 22 December 2016, the Ministry of Labour and Employment issued a notification increasing the wage limit for coverage under the ESI Act to INR 21,000. This change will come into effect on 1 January 2017. The wage ceiling was last raised in May 2010, where the wage limit was increased from INR 10,000 to INR 15,000. Amnesty Schemes for EPF and ESI Defaulters

This will give opportunity for the firms which have defaulted in payment of contributions of ESI and EPF to declare correct employment figures and ensure correctness in contribution henceforth onwards. Union Minister of State for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya announced two amnesty schemes from his department, one for the ESIC – Employees State Insurance Corporation and another for the EPF – Employees Provident Fund, to clean up the existing records of court cases or proceedings. Addressing a press conference at the State party office on 18 th  December, 2016, the Labour Minister said in that in both instances (EPF and ESI) there are lots of court cases pending for years and in several others proceedings have also been filed for wrong or under reporting of number of employees working or contributions made. ESI on Arrears

ESIC raises wage threshold to Rs 21,000

The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) today raised the monthly wage threshold to Rs 21,000, from the current Rs 15,000, for coverage under its health insurance scheme. In a meeting held today, the ESIC board also decided to give an option to existing insured persons to continue membership even if their wage breaches the ceiling of Rs 21,000 per month. At present, all those insured under the ESIC scheme lose their membership of ESIC as well as that of the insurance cover if their wage overshoots the ceiling. "ESIC has raised the threshold wage limit from Rs 15,000 to Rs 21,000," Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya told PTI after the board meeting of ESIC here. Labour Minister is the Chairman of the ESIC Board. Both the decisions will be implemented from October 1. COVERAGE OF 26 DISTRICTS UNDER ESI ACT

The Government of India has extended the ESI Scheme to all the 26 Districts in Karnataka with effect from 1.5.2016. Heither to the ESI Act was applicable to the industrial and commercial clusters notified from time to time. From 1 st  May 2016 ESI Scheme will cover the entire District. Hence, it is obligatory for all the coverable establishments to register under the ESI Act, obtain code number and cover the eligible employees under the ESI Scheme. In Karnataka all the Factories and Establishments employing 10 and above persons are covered. Further, in such establishments the employees who are getting salary upto Rs.15,000/- are covered under the ESI Scheme. It is obligatory for the employers to register within 15 days.
