5 Days Grace Period for December 2016 PF Contribution

The Unified Portal of EPFO was made operational on 23rd December, 2016. A number of references are being received from the employers highlighting the problems on the portal in upfront allotment of UAN, connectivity issues, login issues, website slowdown/hanging, awareness of new procedures etc. IS division is making efforts to remove the difficulties and stabilize the unified portal. In view of the above, EPFO has decided that, as a special case concession of grace period of 5 days is allowed for the employers to deposit the contribution and other dues for the month of December, 2016 by 20th January, 2017.

Employees Provident Fund Organisation has introduced a new Notification, in which special drive will be initiated   from 1st January, 2017 by the EPFO for coverage of the Establishment which are not yet covered but which are liable for EPF coverage. The Establishment which is legally liable for coverage will be covered under the Employees Provident Fund Act. According to the notification, following benefits will be provided to the defaulters: Only Employer Share will be levied, No Employees Share. Interest as applicable on Employer’s Share. EPFO Takes Steps to Cover Contract Workers in Government Departments  Last Date for Submission of Life Certificate Extended Till 15th January 2017 ECR 2.0, UAN 2.0 and PMRPY Services to be Made Operational from December 2016   A sub-committee of Central Board of Trustees, EPF met on 7th November 2016. The committee noted that the coverage of contract workers increased from 89.25 lakh to 1.02 crore.  The Committee however further noted that large number of contact workers in the country still remain deprived of PF benefits. This is because many Central Government Departments/ Organizations do not come under the purview of the EPF and MP Act, 1952. Government is working on a scheme to provide low-cost housing for retirement fund body EPFO's over five crore subscribers, Parliament was informed Monday.   "Government is exploring the possibility for providing a suitable low-cost housing scheme for subscribers of Employees' Pension Fund. It is in preliminary discussion stage," Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.   The minister was replying to a question whether the government or the EPFO has introduced/proposes to introduce a scheme to allow its subscribers to pledge their future PF contribution to buy low-cost houses. Last year, the proposal was also listed on the agenda of the meeting of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation's EPFO trustees meeting on September 16. In India non-government employee during their are protected by the social security in the forms of pensions under he Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952. New PF withdrawal norms put on hold till July 31    The labour ministry on Monday (18 th April 2016) eased the planned restriction on withdrawal of contribution to the employees’ provident fund. It said withdrawal can be allowed for housing, major medical treatment for self and family members, medical, dental and engineering education of children, and for their marriage. The relaxation has also been extended to members who have joined an establishment belonging to or under the central or state government, and become a member of contributory provident fund or old age pension. These norms will come into effect from August. The amendments were made after labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya received representations from trade unions. A government release said the ministry had decided to pay the full accumulations to the credit of a member, including interest up to the date of payment, if he or she fulfils any of the above-mentioned conditions. EPF Online Transfer Claim : Through OTCP & UAN Member portal

If you are a registered member with EPFO’s UAN Member Portal , by now you would have been familiar with the facilities that are available on the portal. But two facilities like” online transfer of EPF claims” and “online checking of the status of the transferred claims” are still not available. EPFO states that this is still under progress. Compliance Analysis & Monitoring System

The Government has launched a Compliance Analysis & Monitoring System under which the Principal employers will upload contract details awarded to be made available to EPFO for checking. After the data is collected from different sources, they will be forwarded to field offices with specific direction who will take compliance action and upload the report. Thus, more contract workers will be brought under EPFO without causing undue interruption in the work of principal employers.
