CBI Arrests Chennai Provident Fund Commissioner in Bribe Case

New Delhi: A Regional Provident Fund (PF) Commissioner-I posted in Chennai was arrested in an alleged bribery case by the officials of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday 18- January-16.

"The PF commissioner along with 6 others including two Enforcement officers and four private persons was arrested in Rs 14.5 lakh alleged bribery case," CBI said.

It was alleged that the commissioner had demanded a sum of Rs 25 lakhs from a group of institutions in Chennai, as illegal gratification, for favouring them in the matter of subterfuge of wages for the purpose of Provident Fund deduction, remittance in respect of their employees.

The CBI laid a trap and intercepted a vehicle in which the commissioner was travelling immediately after collection of alleged bribe of Rs 14.5 lakhs from a conduit.
Searches were conducted at the residence and office chamber of the commissioner. "We have recovered of several incriminating documents. The searches are still continuing," CBI said.
